Monument, CO, is part of the Tri-Lakes Area and is nestled along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains and centered approximately 20 miles north of Colorado Springs and 40 miles south of Denver. The town is bordered by National Forest on the west, the United States Air Force Academy to the south, foothills and rock outcroppings to the north and rolling plains to the east. Monument was named after Monument Creek which flows through the west side of town.

Monument was first settled as a stop along the Rio Grande railroad in 1872, and the area was incorporated as a town called Henry’s Station in 1879, but the name was later changed to Monument. The Town of Monument at an elevation of 6,900 ft. maintains its small town atmosphere with unique shops and restaurants.
The average high temperatures in the summer reach 85 degrees Fahrenheit, while the average winter low temperature is 12 degrees. Monument gets about 100 inches of snowfall a year; however, warm sunny days are not uncommon in the middle of winter. Monument Recreation and Attractions
The recreational opportunities and wonderful neighborhoods are balanced with Monument’s historic charm that is found in the community's downtown area. One of the state's most visited tourist attractions is The United States Air Force Academy. It is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains just north of Colorado Springs, adjacent to Gleneagle and just south of the Monument-Palmer Lake area.
Trails for horse back riding, hiking and biking are numerous. A 16-mile stretch of the Santa Fe Trail extends from Palmer Lake to the south entrance of the Air Force Academy. The Greenland trailhead winds through rolling grasslands, past ponds, through oak scrublands and pines where fox and deer are frequently seen. Other outdoor activities include golf with four scenic golf courses and a spectacular view of the mountains.

Monument is mainly home to small business, and has no manufacturing or big business.
